Alyn Waters Country Park - Llay

Alyn Waters Country Park near Llay is a proper working landscape - you're walking through actual managed woodland and riverside habitat, not some manicured tourist attraction. The river itself is the main draw, flanked by paths that let you follow the water's progress without too much faffing about.

It's the kind of place that rewards a decent stroll rather than a quick tick-box visit. Walkers will find genuine trails here, and if you're into spotting wildlife or just wanting to hear yourself think, the park delivers. The waterside setting means it's got that calming effect that actual nature tends to have. Families with older kids will manage fine; younger ones might get restless unless they're the type who enjoy poking about in streams and looking for frogs.

The nearest proper town is Chester, just across the border, which makes this a useful addition to a wider North Wales exploration rather than a destination in itself.
