Allt y Felin

The forest track at Allt y Felin winds through dense woodland above Lampeter, following what was once a working mill stream. It's the kind of walk that feels properly remote despite being within sight of a market town - all mossy banks, stone walls, and the occasional flash of water between the trees.

This is walking territory rather than a sit-down attraction. The path climbs steadily through mixed woodland, with the stream your constant companion. On a wet day the ground squelches underfoot; in autumn the canopy turns copper and gold. You'll pass old stone structures - remnants of the industrial past - which tell their own quiet story without needing plaques or explanations.

It suits anyone who likes a proper woodland ramble without the crowds you'd find at more famous Cardigan Valley walks. Older kids who can manage uneven ground will enjoy spotting the old mill workings. The walk takes a good hour or so depending on how far you push upstream, and it's genuinely peaceful - you might not see another soul.

If you're camped at Lampeter Caravan & Camping or Canvas & Campfires just down the road, this makes an excellent morning or afternoon out. Bring proper boots though; the terrain is muddy more often than not. There's no visitor infrastructure here - no cafe, no facilities - so come self-sufficient. Free to access, and all the better for it.
