Allt Pant-glas

The woodland around Allt Pant-glas, just outside Llandeilo, is proper walking country. You're looking at mixed forest with decent trails that wind through beech and oak, the sort of place where you actually feel like you've escaped rather than just popped into a car park for twenty minutes. It's free to access and there's no faffing about with opening hours - you turn up when you like.

The main draw here is straightforward: woodland paths at a gentle gradient, decent views across the Towy Valley when the trees thin out, and the kind of quiet that makes you realise how much noise you carry around. It's not dramatic or showy. There are no waterfalls or ancient monuments. But if you're staying at one of the nearby glamping spots - Ravenscroft Retreats or Gelli Glamping are closest - and you want to stretch your legs without driving far, this does the job well. Families with young kids will manage it fine; it's not a slog. Serious walkers might want something more demanding, but as a morning ramble before breakfast or an evening potter, it's excellent.

Allow an hour or ninety minutes depending on how much you meander. Spring's lovely for bluebells, autumn for the colour. The area around Llandeilo itself is worth a day - the castle ruins, the town itself - so this works as a proper park holiday rather than a one-hit visit. Grab a map locally if you're worried about trails; the forest is forgiving but not huge.
