Allt Gorig

Allt Gorig is a proper forest walk in the hills above Llandysul, and it's the sort of place you stumble upon rather than plan for. The woodland here is thick - oak and birch mainly - with paths that wind steeply enough to keep your legs interested without being a full fell-walker's expedition. You won't find facilities or signage to speak of, so it's genuinely a case of what you see is what you get.

Walkers get the most from this one. It's best in spring when the light filters through fresh leaves, or autumn when the paths are carpeted with colour. The climb takes perhaps forty minutes depending on fitness and how many times you stop to catch your breath. Kids will enjoy it if they're the type who like scrambling over roots and getting properly muddy - the easily bored five-year-old might grumble before the halfway point.

Being free and unmaintained means going mid-week in decent weather is wise. Storm damage can make routes dodgy, and heavy rain turns it into a proper slog. Allow two to three hours if you're not rushing.

If you're based at Thistledown Glamping just down the road, Allt Gorig makes an excellent morning adventure before a leisurely lunch in Llandysul. It's close enough to Wild Meadow Camping that families staying there could make it their weekly highlight. Not Instagram-famous, not overcrowded - just honest woodland that rewards a proper walk.
