Allt Berach

The forest at Allt Berach sits just outside Llandeilo, a proper slice of Carmarthenshire woodland that doesn't announce itself loudly but rewards anyone willing to explore it. You're looking at mature trees, river access, and the kind of quiet you actually struggle to find in South Wales these days. The walking here is straightforward - no killer climbs, just the kind of paths that let you think without your legs complaining.

It's a solid spot for families who want their kids to burn off energy without the stress of a long trek, though the terrain can get muddy after rain so wellies aren't a bad shout. Walkers will appreciate the proximity to the wider Towy Valley walks, and if you're into spotting riverside plants or just sitting with a flask listening to the water, you'll have plenty of reasons to linger. The forest does its job - gives you trees, gives you air that tastes different from town, gives you a reason to slow down.

If you're based at one of the nearby glamping spots - Ravenscroft Retreats or Gelli are both within spitting distance - this makes an easy morning wander before heading into Llandeilo for lunch. Route 47 Glamping and Towy Valley Caravan Park are similarly close enough that you could add this as a warm-up to bigger walks in the area. No charge that I can find, no faffing about with visitor centres. Just turn up and walk. That's refreshing.
