The flint walls of All Saints' Church catch the light differently depending on the hour, which is why I found myself standing outside it twice in one afternoon. It's a proper medieval church on the edge of Hilgay, a village that honestly wouldn't delay you for more than five minutes if you weren't specifically after it.

The building itself dates back centuries - the kind of Norfolk church where you'll spot the original flint work and understand why these structures have survived so long. Inside, there's the usual quiet that only old churches manage. Not much fussing about, just good honest stone and a few reminders of the village's past. You're looking at maybe twenty minutes inside if you're genuinely interested in the architecture, less if you're just passing through.

This works best if you're staying locally - say, at Grange Farm Touring Park nearby - and fancying a gentle walk to stretch the legs. It's the sort of stop that costs nothing and won't demand much of your time, which means it fits neatly into a broader Norfolk exploration without throwing your schedule out. King's Lynn is close enough that you could combine both in a morning if you wanted, though the church is the quieter proposition by far.

Worth a detour? Only if you're properly into medieval ecclesiastical architecture or just need a peaceful spot. Otherwise it's one of those places that's rather nice when you're already in the area, but wouldn't justify a special trip on its own.
