The drive to All Saints Challoch takes you through proper Dumfries & Galloway countryside - rolling fields and dark stone walls - before you spot this modest kirk sitting quietly above Newton Stewart. It's a working parish church, still in use, which immediately sets it apart from the typical heritage ruin you might expect. The church itself dates back several centuries and contains some worthwhile Victorian additions and decent stained glass if you're into that sort of thing.
