Albert Park

Albert Park sits on the edge of Hawick, a working-class town that's seen better days but still has genuine charm if you know where to look. The reserve itself is a proper local spot - nothing fancy, but genuinely rewarding if you're after a quiet walk among trees and water.

You're looking at a small nature reserve with woodland paths and a decent-sized pond. Birdwatchers will get more out of it than most - there's decent variety if you're patient and know what you're listening for. There's something honest about that. In spring and early summer the woodland's lush and the light's proper lovely filtering through the canopy. Couple of hours maximum, then you're back for lunch. It won't be the highlight of your trip, but it's exactly the kind of space that rounds out a good day in the Borders.
