Adjutant General's Corps

The Adjutant General's Corps Museum sits on the edge of Burton-on-Trent, tucked away in what feels like a proper slice of British military history that most day-trippers miss entirely. It's housed in the old barracks - all redbrick and parade ground - and charts the story of the administrative backbone that kept the British Army running for over a century.

Inside you'll find uniforms, documents, photographs and personal effects that tell the stories of the men and women who served in clerical, educational and personnel roles. It's not the glamorous stuff - no battle flags or gleaming weapons - but if you're interested in how wars are actually run, it's compelling. The staff know their stuff and will chat through exhibits if you ask.

Walking round takes a solid hour, maybe ninety minutes if you read everything properly. History buffs will get the most from it; kids might find it dry unless they're genuinely fascinated by how bureaucracy shaped military life. Free entry is a nice bonus, though opening times can be patchy so ring ahead before you trek out.

It works well as a stop-off during a broader Staffordshire tour. Kingfisher Holiday Park, just under three miles away, makes a decent base if you're spending a few days in the area exploring castles and country estates. Burton's town centre is walkable from either location, which helps justify the visit.
