Accessible boardwalk viewpoint

The boardwalk near Forres cuts through moorland without demanding much of your legs, which is rather the point. Wheelchair users, pushchairs, mobility scooter folk - everyone gets the same view, and that's properly done. The path itself is firm, level, and long enough to feel like you've gone somewhere, not just shuffled to the end of a car park.

What you're actually looking at depends on the weather and time of year. Moorland stretches out in shades of brown and purple depending on the heather. On a clear day you can see proper distance. On a dreich one, you get atmosphere - which some people prefer anyway. Most visitors allow 30 to 45 minutes, though you could knock it back to 20 if you're just after a quick constitutional.

It's the sort of place you fit in between breakfast and lunch, or on an afternoon when the main activity got rained off. Parents with young kids appreciate that there's a view without the scramble. Older walkers come back here specifically because they can manage it without compromise.

Bring a jacket - you're exposed up there, and the wind has a habit of reminding you you're in the Highlands. The heather bloom in late summer makes it worth timing a return visit around August or September.
