Zoology Museum

The Zoology Museum sits on the University of Aberdeen campus in Old Aberdeen, and it's one of those places that catches you off guard with how good it actually is. Walk in and you're surrounded by taxidermied animals, skeletons, and specimens that span everything from local Scottish wildlife to creatures from across the globe. There's a proper collection of stuffed birds, mammals in glass cases, and enough skeletal displays to keep anyone interested in anatomy occupied for a good couple of hours.

It's free, which is brilliant, and honestly that alone makes it worth the trip if you're staying at Seaview Caravan Park just down the road. Weekday mornings tend to be quieter - weekends can get a bit crowded with school groups. The layout is straightforward enough, though signage could be clearer in places.

Families with kids aged eight and up will get the most from it. Younger ones might find it a bit dry after thirty minutes, especially if they're used to interactive museums. History buffs and anyone with even a passing interest in natural history will spend longer here than expected. The specimens themselves tell stories - you'll spot rarities and learn bits about what was being collected and studied by Victorian naturalists.

Allow an hour minimum, longer if you're reading the labels properly. The museum closes at four on weekdays, so afternoon visits need to be timed carefully. It's a solid way to spend a wet afternoon if you're based at the caravan park, and you can walk it from there fairly easily.
