Young Covert

Young Covert is a proper woodland walk just outside Worcester, the kind of place that feels like a secret even though it's barely a few miles from town. The forest floor is thick with leaf litter and moss, and the trees are old enough to make you feel small. It's genuinely peaceful here - no theme park energy, just actual woods.

You're mainly walking through beech and oak, with plenty of shade even when the sun's out. The paths are decent underfoot, though they can get boggy after rain, so sensible footwear matters. Allow a couple of hours for a proper ramble, or twenty minutes if you just want a quick stretch of the legs. It's free to access and there's no formal visitor centre, which suits some people and irritates others.

Walkers will absolutely love this more than families with small children. Prams won't cope with the terrain, and there's not much to hold a five-year-old's attention beyond "look, a stick". If you're into birds or spotting woodland plants, this is the place to be. Photographers get decent light filtering through the canopy in late afternoon.

It sits nicely within reach of several caravan parks - Croft Farm Water Park and Rockridge Farm Campsite are both under six miles away - making it a solid morning option before heading elsewhere. Pair it with a walk around Worcester itself or a visit to the cathedral if you want a fuller day out. The forest works best in autumn or late spring, honestly. Summer brings the midges.
