WW2 Pillbox (Intact)

A concrete bunker from the 1940s sits quietly in the Somerset countryside near Crewkerne, largely forgotten by most passing visitors. This WW2 pillbox is one of the rare ones you'll find still standing intact - most have been demolished or left to crumble. It's a squat, functional thing, designed to house a machine gun crew defending against a German invasion that never came.

Inside, the space is cramped and cold. You can still make out the gun ports, the thick walls, the sheer bleakness of what it must have been like to man this position through a long night shift. There's no visitor centre or interpretation boards, so you're essentially poking around in a relic. That's either brilliant or disappointing depending on your mood.
