Woolston Library

Woolston Library sits on the eastern edge of Southampton, a proper working community space rather than a tourist attraction. It's a local library doing local library things - lending books, hosting events, providing computers and study areas for people who actually need them. Fair to say it's not somewhere you'd build a holiday around.

That said, if you're staying at one of the nearby parks - Mercury Holiday Park is just 3.5 miles away, Dibles Park a bit further - and you've got a rainy afternoon or need to pick up a book you've left at home, it's worth knowing about. The staff are friendly, and it's genuinely free to use. You can spend an hour browsing or settle in with a coffee and a paperback without anyone minding.

It works best for families with older kids who can occupy themselves, or readers who just want a quiet spot. The youngest ones might get restless after thirty minutes or so. Opening hours are a touch awkward if you're planning around them - closed Thursdays and Sundays entirely, and only opens till 5pm on Mondays and Fridays, though Tuesday and Wednesday evenings stay open until 7.

If you're basing yourself at Solent Breezes or one of the other caravan parks in the area and want to explore Southampton itself, Woolston's fine as a quick stop. But it's not a destination. It's the sort of place you visit because you're already in the neighbourhood, not because you've driven there specifically.
