Wood's Coppice

An old coppice woodland just outside Henley-in-Arden that feels properly removed from the usual tourist trail. Wood's Coppice isn't a manicured country estate - it's a working forest where you can actually walk among trees that have been managed the same way for centuries, cut back and regrown in cycles. The paths wind through dense woodland, and in spring the floor floods with bluebells, which is when most people bother to visit. Fair enough - it's genuinely lovely then.

This is walkers' territory, really. The terrain's gentle enough that you won't need serious boots, but there's nothing here to hold the attention of younger kids for long. An hour's loop is plenty, unless you're the type who gets absorbed in identifying woodland birds and checking for fungi. On a quiet morning you might see deer, though don't count on it.

The access situation is a bit vague - there's no obvious visitor information online, so turn up and have a look around. It's free to walk, as far as anyone can tell. Go in autumn when the light filters through properly, or skip the bluebell madness of May when it's rammed. Winter's actually underrated here - the bare trees open up sightlines you don't get in summer.
