Wood Hill

You climb Wood Hill expecting a modest Lowland bump, and that's exactly what you get - but the views across Clackmannanshire more than compensate for the short sharp ascent. The walk up from Clackmannan takes roughly 20 minutes if you're moving at a decent pace, and the path is straightforward enough, though it can get muddy after rain so proper boots are worth the bother.

Once at the top, the landscape opens out properly. You can see across the Forth Valley towards the Ochil Hills, and on a clear day the visibility is genuinely impressive for what isn't a particularly high peak. It's the sort of walk that suits anyone wanting a quick leg-stretch rather than a full-day expedition - older kids will manage it without complaining, and it's accessible enough for reasonably fit adults without requiring mountaineering experience.

The hill itself is unremarkable in that very Scottish way: rough grass, a few wind-beaten trees, nothing dramatic. But that's rather the point. This is proper walking territory where you come for the exercise and the view, not for facilities or constructed attractions. Allow an hour there and back from Clackmannan town.
