Wollerton Wetlands sits just outside Telford and is genuinely one of those places that rewards a quiet morning visit more than a busy afternoon one. You're looking at a proper wetland reserve where the whole point is standing still, binoculars in hand, waiting to spot whatever's just landed on the water. The site works best for birdwatchers and anyone who actually enjoys silence. Kids can go, but only if they're the type who get excited about identifying a sedge warbler rather than wanting a playground. Access and facilities aren't entirely clear from here - best ringing ahead or checking before you go - but it's free or very cheap, which is the Shropshire way. The nearest town is Telford, which won't win any beauty contests but has the essentials.
