Windmill Spinney Nature Reserve

The spinney sits quietly between Rugby and the surrounding farmland - a proper little woodland pocket that punches above its weight for wildlife spotting. It's the kind of place where you'll actually see things moving in the undergrowth rather than just hope you might. We counted three different bird species in the first ten minutes, and the paths are well-maintained enough that you're not fighting through nettles the whole way.

This reserve works best for anyone with binoculars and a bit of patience. Keen birders will find it genuinely rewarding; families with small children might find it a touch underwhelming unless the kids are already into spotting things. There's no cafe, no facilities, and no interpretation boards, so it's not the kind of place you linger for hours. Give it an hour, maybe ninety minutes if you're thorough. Spring and early summer are your best bets for seeing migrating species.
