Willingdon Point

The walk up Willingdon Point rewards you with one of the better views along this stretch of the Sussex coast, though it's hardly a mountain expedition. From Pevensey, it's a straightforward trudge inland to reach this modest peak, and the effort pays off with proper panoramic views across the Peale Valley and towards the Downs. On a clear day you can see all the way to the high ground beyond Eastbourne.

It's the sort of place that works brilliantly for walkers who want a proper countryside ramble without needing fell boots or map-reading skills. The ascent is gradual enough that families with older children won't grind to a halt halfway up, though younger ones might find it a bit dull compared to splashing about at Pevensey Bay Holiday Park a few miles south. History types will appreciate that you're walking through genuine East Sussex landscape - the sort of open ground that's barely changed in centuries.

Allow a couple of hours for the round trip from Pevensey town, longer if you fancy exploring the surrounding farmland. There's no visitor centre or facilities at the top, so bring water and something to eat. Go on a breezy day rather than in dense heat - the exposure up there gets proper punishing when the sun's full strength.

If you're based at Warren Wood Country Park nearby, this makes an excellent morning walk before settling into something more leisurely. It's not a destination trip in itself, but it slots perfectly into a week exploring the wider area.
