Whitefield Copse

Walking into Whitefield Copse feels like stepping back in time. This stretch of woodland near Ryde is the kind of place where you actually hear yourself think - no theme park crowds, no gift shop nonsense, just proper trees and the occasional flash of wildlife.

It's a small forest, so don't expect hours of wilderness trekking. Twenty minutes to half an hour gets you through comfortably, though you can potter about longer if you're the type who stops to identify birds or photograph fungi. The paths are straightforward, well-defined enough that you won't get lost but overgrown enough to feel genuinely wild. In autumn it's genuinely lovely, all golden light filtering through the canopy.

This works best for families after a quieter walk, or for anyone staying at the nearby holiday parks - Old Mill Holiday Park and Sandhills are both top-rated spots just a couple of miles away, so Whitefield makes an easy morning or late afternoon jaunt without the faff of driving somewhere flashy. It's also decent for anyone interested in how the Island's natural landscape works, though it's not going to blow your mind if you're used to the New Forest.

Bring sensible shoes. The ground gets boggy after rain, and you'll want proper grip. Free to access, as far as anyone can tell - it's just woodland you walk into. Honestly, if you're based at White Cliff Bay Glamping or nearby, it's well worth the short drive for a screen break.
