White Loch

White Loch sits quietly in the rolling countryside south of Blairgowrie, a modest but genuine Perthshire water that doesn't make the tourist board posters but works brilliantly for a proper walk. It's a shallow freshwater loch surrounded by rough grassland and scattered woodland - the kind of place where you can actually hear yourself think, which is rarer than it should be.

The main appeal here is the walk itself rather than any dramatic views or facilities. A track runs most of the way round, taking roughly 45 minutes to an hour depending on your pace and how many times you stop to watch the waterfowl. It's flat enough for families with young legs, though it can get muddy after rain. Birdwatchers do well out of it - you'll see grebes, tufted ducks, and the occasional osprey if you're lucky.

There's nothing here to detain you for hours. No café, no visitor centre, no gift shop. That's rather the point. This is a proper walk rather than a destination attraction, so come with comfortable boots and reasonable expectations.

White Loch works well as part of a larger Perthshire loop, especially if you're staying at one of the nearby holiday parks around Blairgowrie - Blairgowrie Holiday Park and Beech Hedge are both within striking distance. It pairs nicely with a visit to the town itself, which has proper amenities and decent cafés. Free access, open year-round. Best on a clear day when the light catches the water properly.
