Whitcliff Park

The views from Whitcliff Park across the Severn Vale are the real draw here - on a clear day you can see right across to the Forest of Dean. It's a proper local spot just outside Dursley, the kind of place where families bring a picnic on a Sunday afternoon and walkers crack on through without fussing about it.

The park itself is modest. There's open grassland, some pleasant walking routes through the area, and benches positioned specifically for gazing out over the countryside. It won't take hours to cover, but that's almost the point - it's a top-up rather than a destination in itself. Kids will run about for a bit, stretch their legs if you're driving between attractions.

If you're staying at Pepper Pot Caravan Park nearby, this makes an easy detour - fifteen minutes or so will give you the highlights. The walk up to the viewpoint is manageable, though not particularly dramatic. Go early or late in the day when the light's better and you'll avoid the chance of sharing your vantage point with a coach party.

Worth the stop if you're in the area exploring Gloucestershire's countryside. Don't make a special trip from far away, but combine it with a walk round Symonds Yat or a visit to one of the Forest of Dean attractions and you've got a solid afternoon. The real value is getting outside and feeling that sense of space across the vale.
