About Wharton Fell
It's a cracking walk for families with older kids - nothing too technical, and most fit walkers will do the round trip in two to three hours without hurrying. The fell itself is moorland and grassland, exposed but not intimidating, and if the weather turns, there's enough visibility that you won't get lost. Bring proper boots though; it can get boggy in places, especially after rain.
If you're based at Gillcumber Glamping Pods just outside Kirkby Stephen, this makes an excellent morning or afternoon outing. The pods are only four miles away, so you're barely ten minutes from the trailhead. It's not a fell that demands an entire day, which means you could easily combine it with other local walks or explore Kirkby Stephen itself. The market town has some decent pubs for post-walk recovery, which frankly matters more than people admit.
