West Quay Cormorant

The Cormorant sculpture at West Quay cuts quite a striking figure against Newhaven's working harbour. It's a substantial piece - you can't miss it - and it does exactly what public art should: it makes you stop and actually look at where you are.

The walk around West Quay itself is pleasant enough, particularly if conditions are decent.

Newhaven itself is compact and genuine, without the polish of Brighton down the road. Three Ponds Holiday Park sits just inland, making this a manageable addition to a Sussex seaside break. Worth the detour if you're in the area, particularly if you're into sculpture or maritime subjects. Otherwise, it's more of a "while you're in Newhaven" rather than a destination in itself.
