About West Beach
The beach itself is all pebbles and the occasional patch of sand when the tide's right. Walkers come here because the South Coast Path runs through, and the views back towards Newhaven's white cliffs and lighthouse are solid enough. If you've got kids, they'll amuse themselves turning stones for twenty minutes, then ask when they can go home. There's shelter from the sea wall on the landward side, and the shale underfoot keeps things dry-ish even after rain.
This isn't a destination beach. It's the sort of place you add to a longer walk, maybe combining it with a stroll up to the cliffs proper or a pub lunch back in Newhaven town centre. If you're staying at Three Ponds Holiday Park just up the road, it's a decent escape on an afternoon when the weather's turning grey. The beach fills up a bit on summer weekends, but even then it never gets rammed like Brighton does. Worth the detour? Only if you're already in the area.
