Weldon Woodland Park

You'll find yourself walking through mature woodland that feels properly removed from the world, even though Peterborough is just down the road. Weldon Woodland Park is a genuine nature reserve - the kind of place where you actually see things if you're patient enough to look. Bluebells in spring, woodland birds year-round, and the sort of quiet that makes you realise how little of it there is anymore.

The trails wind through mixed woodland at a gentle pace. Nothing demanding, but you're not shuffling around a flat loop either. Dog walkers love it here. Families with younger kids do well too, though there's not a playground or café to anchor a whole afternoon around - this is about the walking and the woodland itself.

Birders should bring binoculars. The reserve supports a decent variety of species, particularly warblers in summer months. Spring is exceptional if you time it right with the bluebells. Autumn's another strong bet - the light through the trees is worth the visit alone.

Bit of a contrast to the caravan parks nearby. Brightside is just over two miles away and New Lodge Farm Bulwick at four and a bit, so you could easily combine a morning here with a base at either. Allows you to break up park time without going far. Come early or late in the day if you want the place to yourself - mid-afternoon weekends can get busier than you'd expect for somewhere this quiet.
