About Webb Ellis Museum

Rugby's got itself a museum dedicated to the bloke who invented rugby. Webb Ellis, supposedly, picked up a football during a match in 1820 and ran with it - hence the sport. The museum itself is small but does the job if you're stopping by Rugby anyway.

You'll see bits of memorabilia, some old kit, explanations of how the game evolved from that one act of rule-breaking. It's free, which is the main thing. Won't take more than an hour, realistically - less if you're not particularly fussed about the sport's history.

Families with rugby-mad kids will find it worthwhile. History buffs get their money's worth too, though expect a fairly modest setup rather than anything blockbuster. On a rainy afternoon in the Midlands, it's decent enough filler.

If you're camping at one of the nearby parks - Meadow Field's only a few miles out, or there's Caravanning and Camping at Manor Farm equally close - you could easily slot this in as a morning activity before heading to somewhere with more going on. The town itself has a proper rugby heritage, so it fits naturally into a wider look at the area. Check opening hours before you go though, as they're a bit variable. Best visited mid-week when it's quieter. Not worth building a whole day around, but genuinely interesting if you've got the time and the interest.
