You're not squinting in some converted warehouse or battling crowds. Staff know what they're talking about without being patronising, which is rarer than it should be.

It's worth an afternoon if you're staying at one of the nearby caravan parks - Scone Camping and Caravanning Club Site is just 2.4 miles away and rated highly, making it easy to base yourself there for a few days. Perth Caravan Park is closer at 2.1 miles if you want something more central. If contemporary art leaves you cold, honestly, there's no point forcing it. But if you're the type who actually enjoys seeing what artists are doing now rather than retreading the same old favourites, Wave deserves your time.

The gallery works best as part of a Perth visit rather than a standalone reason to travel. Pair it with the town's actual heritage attractions if you've got kids in tow - they'll want something more hands-on after an hour inside. Allow 90 minutes maximum for a proper look round.
