The pond sits quietly on the outskirts of Gloucester, one of those spots locals know about but tourists often miss entirely. Dinmore Fishing Pond - or Waterwells2 depending on who you ask - is a working fishery, which means it's less about leisurely strolls and more about serious anglers casting lines from dawn onwards. That said, it's a genuinely peaceful place to spend an hour or two, particularly if you've got kids who want to watch the water without the noise of a theme park.

The setting is proper countryside despite being minutes from the city. You'll get benches, open water, and the kind of stillness you crave after a morning trawling through Gloucester's medieval streets. Bring a packed lunch and you've got yourself a free afternoon spot that costs nothing. Fishermen dominate weekday mornings and weekends, so aim for mid-afternoon if you're not after the specialist gear.

If you're based at Baldwin's Brook or Apple Orchard - both excellent parks within a few miles - this makes a decent half-day detour. It's not a destination in itself, mind. But combined with a walk into Gloucester proper or a visit to nearby Forest of Dean attractions, it slots in well. Expect to spend 60-90 minutes maximum unless you're genuinely keen on fishing. Go when the light's good - late afternoon gives you the best of the water and fewer angry anglers muttering about disturbance.
