Watch Folly

You don't climb Watch Folly for the summit views - you climb it for the odd, stubborn pleasure of standing on top of a Victorian folly in the middle of Oxfordshire. It's a proper brick tower, built for no reason other than someone's whim, and it sits on a gentle rise near Wallingford with the kind of local mystery that makes walking guides a bit cagey about exact details.

The walk up isn't demanding. This is Oxfordshire, not the Pennines. But the path rewards you with open farmland views and a real sense of having stumbled onto something that doesn't get crowded. The folly itself is the real draw - quirky, tactile, and completely unpretentious. It's free to look at, takes maybe an hour all-in depending on pace, and works well as part of a wider walk around the area.
