Washdike Holt

A proper woodland walk rather than a manicured nature reserve, Washdike Holt sits inland from Skegness and gives you the kind of forest cover you don't expect in this part of Lincolnshire. It's small - you're looking at maybe 45 minutes to an hour to do it properly - but the trees are dense enough that you actually feel removed from the flat agricultural land surrounding the region.

The paths are straightforward woodland trails through mixed woodland, nothing technical or strenuous. You'll spot native trees, some decent bird life if you're quiet about it, and the whole place has that peaceful, undisturbed quality that makes it worth the short drive from Skegness. Dog walkers will find it decent enough, though it's not massive, so don't expect hours of wandering.

What works here is the contrast. You come from the coast, spend a morning on the beach at Skegness, then drive inland and suddenly you're in actual woodland. It breaks up a seaside holiday rather well. If you're staying at The Nurseries Caravan Site nearby, it's close enough for a morning outing without being a hassle. The real appeal is for families after a gentle walk or anyone wanting to stretch their legs away from the arcades and amusement parks.

There's nothing fancy about it, and that's rather the point. Come expecting woodland and fresh air, not visitor facilities or interpretive boards. Best in spring when the undergrowth is interesting, or autumn if you like the light through the trees.
