Warren Point

Warren Point juts out into the sea near Plymouth like a proper geological exclamation mark. It's a headland that rewards the walk down - nothing fancy, just good coastal views and the kind of spot where you can actually see why the Victorians were so obsessed with seaside rambles.

The walk itself takes about twenty minutes from the car park, mostly downhill on decent paths. Once you're there, you get the full sweep of Plymouth Sound spreading out in front of you, and on a clear day the perspective shifts entirely. The geology is the real draw - all those layered rocks tell the story of ancient seabeds, and if you're into that sort of thing, it's genuinely absorbing.

It works best for walkers and anyone with even a passing interest in geology or coastal history. Kids might find the scramble down and the rock pools engaging for an hour or so, but they won't be entertained for an entire afternoon. Bring a decent camera because the light here does something special, especially in late afternoon.

There's no charge and no facilities to speak of - it's just land and sea. Allow a good couple of hours if you're dawdling. It slots nicely into a broader exploration of Plymouth's coastline, and if you're staying at Hidden Hill Devon just over four miles away, you could easily combine it with a visit to the Barbican or the Hoe without too much faffing about. Best visited outside school holidays when the car park isn't rammed.
