Warborough Bottom

The woodland at Warborough Bottom feels properly tucked away despite being only a short drive from Wantage. You're looking at a genuine Berkshire forest - dense, green, and the sort of place where you can actually lose the morning without thinking about it.

It's ideal for walkers who want something low-key rather than a marked trail experience. Bring sensible boots because the ground gets boggy after rain, and there's a real forest smell about the place - damp earth, rotting leaves, that sort of thing. The canopy is thick enough to keep things cool even on warm days, which is rather lovely in July.

Families with older kids do well here. Younger ones might get a bit bored after forty minutes unless they're the type to hunt for sticks and play at explorers. There's nothing to "do" in the attractions sense - no playground, no visitor centre - just woodland. That's rather the point.

You won't find posted opening hours or admission fees because this is proper countryside access rather than a managed site. Free to wander, though obviously respect the land.

If you're staying at Lorne Hill Farm nearby, this makes an easy morning walk before heading to bigger Berkshire draws. It works well as part of a wider park holiday in the area - not a destination on its own, but a decent interlude when you need to get out from under the car for a couple of hours. Worth the detour if you're already in the Wantage area.
