It's the kind of garden that makes sense once you're standing in it - less ornamental showpiece, more practical Georgian-era kitchen garden that's managed to dodge total neglect.

Histories and market gardeners will find themselves properly absorbed here. Families with younger kids might manage forty minutes before restlessness sets in, though if you've got teenagers who care about heritage growing methods or Instagram-able old brick work, they'll linger. The paths are manageable underfoot and there's something undeniably peaceful about it all - no queues, no gift shop noise.

If you're based at Coastal Cabins Glamping just under a mile away, it's an easy morning loop before heading to the coast. The other parks - Roeys Retreat and Atlantic Horizons - are within a short drive, making it a solid addition to a broader week rather than a full day's outing. Admission and opening hours vary seasonally, so ringing ahead is sensible. It's proper worth the detour if you're already in North Devon, just don't expect manicured borders and designer planting.
