Viewpoint for Stirling Castle

The bridge of Stirling offers the single best vantage point for taking in the castle from across the valley - and frankly, it's where most people end up whether they planned it or not. You get the fortress sprawled across its crag in proper dramatic fashion, especially in late afternoon light when the stonework glows. It's a free stop, takes about ten minutes to soak it in, though you could spend longer if you're the photographing type.

Walkers heading to or from Witches Craig Caravan & Camping Park, just under three miles south, often swing by here as part of a wider loop through Stirling. The town itself is compact enough that you can take in the viewpoint, grab a coffee, and explore the Old Town's closes without any faffing about.

Worth the detour if you're in the area - genuinely. The castle itself demands entry fees and takes proper time to explore, but this viewpoint gives you the bones of why everyone cares about the place in the first place. Best visited when the light's good rather than on a grey drizzly afternoon, which happens more often than not in Scotland. If you're staying at the caravan park and fancy a walk into town, this is your money shot.
