Viewing Platform

The viewing platform sits high above Seaton, commanding proper views across the Devon coastline. On a clear day you can see for miles - cliffs, beaches, the curve of the bay. It's the kind of spot where you actually understand why people made the trek out here.

What you get is straightforward: a platform, a vantage point, the landscape. No crowds, no entry fee nonsense as far as we could tell. Twenty minutes and you've got the measure of it, though walkers often linger longer, picking out landmarks or just sitting with a flask. The walk up is manageable enough, though it depends which route you take - some paths are steeper than they deserve to be.

It works best for anyone who actually enjoys a view rather than just photographs of one. History buffs might find the coastal geology interesting; kids under ten will probably ask when they can get ice cream. On grey days it's less compelling - you lose that sense of scale and distance that makes the spot worthwhile.

If you're based at Beer Head Holiday Park or Oakdown, this fits nicely into a morning outing before heading down to the beach proper. Pack a proper coat - it gets windy up there - and go when the light's decent. Early morning or late afternoon tends to work best. Not essential if you're short on time, but if you're already in Seaton and fancy a walk with purpose, it delivers.
