Victoria Gardens sits right in Anstruther, the sort of Victorian green space that rewards a slow wander rather than a quick tick-box visit. It's properly done - formal beds, mature trees, and the kind of paths that loop back on themselves so you don't feel rushed. The town itself is a working fishing port with cobbled streets and decent fish and chips, so you could easily spend a morning here and still have time for lunch.

Walkers and garden enthusiasts will get the most from it. It's not vast, so don't expect to lose yourself for hours, but that's rather the point - you can take in the whole thing without your feet staging a mutiny. Families with young children will find it safe and flat, though there's not much in the way of play equipment, so pack something to keep them occupied if they're the easily bored sort.

The beauty of basing yourself at one of the nearby caravan parks - Sauchope Links is literally a stroll away - is that Victoria Gardens becomes a pleasant leg-stretcher rather than a destination in itself. Pair it with a walk along the coast or a visit to the Scottish Fisheries Museum just along the harbour, and you've got yourself a proper afternoon. The Fife coastal path runs through the area, so there's proper walking if you fancy it.

It's free to wander through, and you can do it justice in under an hour. Go when the sun's out and the gardens are tended - late spring through early autumn is when it properly shines.
