Urquhart & Glenmoriston Church

The church sits in a quiet glen between Drumnadrochit and the wider Loch Ness area, a proper working parish church with real character rather than the tourist-trap stuff you get elsewhere round these parts. From the outside it's straightforward Victorian, but step inside and you get the genuine article - original wood, proper hymn books, the sort of place where locals actually gather on Sundays rather than somewhere that exists purely for Instagram. The setting is what gets you though. Walk around back and you're looking across green valley towards the hills, the kind of view that reminds you why people settled here in the first place.

It's best suited to anyone interested in how Highland communities actually function, or walkers exploring the glens who stumble upon it as a waypoint rather than a destination in itself. You won't spend hours here - twenty minutes is realistic - but it's exactly the sort of stop that rounds out a proper day in the region. Free to visit, naturally, and worth timing your walk to catch the light properly.
