Union Jack Paths

The Union Jack Paths are a network of walking trails around Antrim that form the shape of the Union flag when viewed from above - a genuinely clever bit of local design that actually works on the ground. You won't see the full pattern while you're walking it, of course, but knowing it's there adds a quirky layer to what are otherwise solid countryside walks through the Antrim area.

These routes take you through proper rural Northern Ireland, with decent views and a mix of field paths and country lanes. It's the sort of walking that rewards you with fresh air and a bit of perspective rather than dramatic vistas - good for families who want something low-key, or walkers after a gentle afternoon without too much elevation gain.

The best thing about the Union Jack Paths is they're free and you can dip in and out as you please. An hour covers a decent chunk, but you could easily spend half a day exploring different sections. Spring and autumn are your best bets for weather and light.

If you're based at Six Mile Water or Blair's Castlewood - both within walking distance - the paths become an obvious choice for exploring the landscape around your holiday park without needing the car. They're particularly good if you've got restless kids who need a bit of purpose to their walk. Not dramatic enough to be the reason you come to Antrim, but absolutely worth lacing into a longer stay in the area.
