Twyn-y-Glog

The walk up to Twyn-y-Glog is proper steep, but the effort pays off once you crest the ridge in Powys. This isn't a dramatic summit - more a high moorland outcrop with views stretching across Mid Wales that go on for miles on a clear day. You can see right across the valleys and, if you're lucky, pick out distant peaks dissolving into the haze. The terrain underfoot is rough moorland grass, bog in places, so waterproof boots are essential rather than optional.

It's the kind of walk that rewards hillwalkers and folk who like genuine solitude over easy Instagram fodder. Half an hour, maybe forty minutes from the car park depending on your pace and how many times you stop to take in the view. Families with younger kids might find it a slog for the payoff - there's no café at the top, no facilities, just you and the landscape.

The weather here changes fast, mind. I've seen it go from clear to cloud in minutes, so check the forecast and go early.
