Two Mile Spinney

Two Mile Spinney is a proper woodland walk just outside Bury Saint Edmunds - the sort of place where you can actually hear yourself think. It's a modest forest block, nothing vast, but that's rather the point. You get good tree cover, a few gentle paths winding through, and the kind of quiet that makes you remember why people bother with forests at all.

Walkers will find it worth an afternoon visit, though you're not talking about a full day's expedition here. The paths are straightforward enough - no scrambling required - making it decent for families with younger legs, though there's not much in the way of features or play spaces to keep toddlers entertained beyond "trees are quite good."

If you're staying at one of the nearby parks - Bright Meadow Caravan Park is barely three miles off, or The Four Bells Glamping if you want something a bit more upmarket - this makes a solid walk before lunch or a late-afternoon stretch after a morning elsewhere. West Stow Pods is a bit further but still manageable as a day trip from the wider area.

There's no visitor centre or facilities that I'm aware of, so come prepared. It's the kind of place you visit when you want greenery without crowds, and you're happy with straightforward woodland rather than drama. Quiet and functional - which, depending on your mood, is either exactly what you need or not quite enough.
