Turf Hill

The walk up Turf Hill is a proper no-nonsense climb - steep in places, muddy after rain, and the path isn't always obvious once you're halfway up. But that's rather the point. This isn't a manicured tourist spot; it's a genuine Perthshire hill walk that rewards you with views across the Tay Valley and towards the Ochils if the weather cooperates.

You're looking at roughly an hour to the summit from Perth, though allow two to three hours total if you're not a practiced hill walker. The terrain is moorland and bracken rather than dramatic - it won't blow your mind like Ben Lomond would, but it's exactly what you need if you're staying at one of the nearby parks like Broadslap Farm or Greenhill Farm and want a morning's proper exercise without driving an hour.

Best tackled in late summer or early autumn when the bracken is golden and the midges have mostly cleared off. Winter can be boggy; spring feels a bit muddy. The local hiking community rates it as solid midweek work - families with confident walkers will manage it fine, though younger legs might find the gradient testing.

Turf Hill sits close enough to Perth that you can combine it with a town afternoon if the weather turns, and it connects well with other walks in the area. It's the sort of hill that doesn't make guidebook covers, which is exactly why it's worth doing.
