Tuilyies Park

The woodland at Tuilyies Park is exactly what you want when you've had enough of Dunfermline's town centre and need to breathe properly again. It's a proper nature reserve - nothing fancy, just trees, paths, and the sound of things that aren't car horns. The main appeal here is walking. There are trails threading through the wood, some easier than others, and if you time it right you'll see woodland birds and maybe spot roe deer if you're quiet enough. Spring's when it really sings, though it's pleasant enough year-round.

Walkers will get the most from this place. It's not a stroll-and-Instagram-it sort of location - you need to actually want to be outdoors, and ideally you should give yourself at least ninety minutes to do it justice. Families with young kids will manage the easier paths fine, though there's nothing here to occupy a bored teenager for long. The reserve is free to access, which is the best kind of discovery when you're based nearby.

It works well as a morning outing before heading elsewhere - close enough that you won't waste half your day driving, far enough from town that you genuinely feel like you've escaped.
