Trodd's Copse

A proper woodland walk awaits at Trodd's Copse, just outside Alresford. This small forest offers the kind of gentle rambling that Hampshire does best - mixed woodland with good paths, enough tree cover to feel properly sheltered, and the sort of quiet you won't find near the high street.

It's the sort of place where you can stretch your legs for an hour or so without it turning into a serious hike. The woodland is mixed - beech, oak, and conifers - which means there's decent interest across seasons. Spring brings bluebells, autumn turns it warm and golden. The ground underfoot is mostly firm, even after rain, though it can get a bit muddy in places.

Walkers will get the most from Trodd's Copse. It's not a destination in itself - more a pleasant interlude if you're basing yourself in the area. Families with young kids might find an hour enough before restlessness sets in, though older children who actually want to explore woodland will enjoy the space to roam.

If you're staying at The Spinney Caravan Park just down the road, this makes an easy morning outing. Same goes for Hampshire Hills or Woodlands Camping - all within a few miles. There's no facilities here to speak of, so come prepared. Admission appears to be free, and you can walk whenever it suits you. It's the sort of place that doesn't shout about itself, which is rather the point.
