Trinity Cheltenham

Trinity Cheltenham sits right in the town centre, and it's one of those Victorian churches that stops you mid-stride. Built in the 1820s when Cheltenham was reinventing itself as a spa town, the building itself tells you something about the money and ambition of the period. The interior is worth a proper look - good proportions, decent stained glass, and that sense of calm you only get when you step away from the High Street.

This isn't a destination in itself unless you're genuinely interested in Georgian and Victorian ecclesiastical architecture. But if you're passing through Cheltenham - and most people are, between the races or shopping - it's absolutely worth fifteen minutes. The churchyard is peaceful, which is rare in the town centre. History types will appreciate how it fits into Cheltenham's development, and anyone after a quiet refuge from the shops will find it.

The parks listed - Cheltenham Racecourse Caravan and Motorhome Club Campsite is practically on your doorstep, barely a mile away - make it easy to base yourself locally. If you're staying at any of them and fancy understanding what made Cheltenham tick in the 19th century, Trinity's a good starting point. Free entry, obviously. No set hours that I'm aware of, so treat it like any town church - reasonable daylight access. Don't expect it to take more than twenty minutes unless you're really into the period detail.
