Trethowell Wood

A proper woodland walk within spitting distance of Truro, Trethowell Wood gives you that sense of being properly away from it all without needing a full afternoon's drive. The trees are dense enough that you forget the town's even there, and the paths wind through without being so manicured that they've lost all character.

It's the sort of place that works best for people who actually enjoy walking - not necessarily long walks, but genuine woodland rambling. Families with younger kids might find it a touch underwhelming after half an hour or so; there's no playground nonsense or obvious "attractions" within the wood itself, just trees and the sound of whatever's rustling about. Older children and proper walkers will get more from it.

The ground can be boggy after rain, so proper footwear matters. Plan on an hour to ninety minutes depending on how much you want to explore. Free access, no facilities that I could find - bring what you need.

If you're staying at Carnon Downs Caravan and Motorhome Club or any of the other parks scattered around this part of Cornwall, Trethowell Wood is close enough for a morning excursion before heading to the coast. It's not a reason to choose the area on its own, but paired with Truro itself and the various parks nearby, it fills a gap nicely - a proper bit of woodland rather than another coastal walk.
