Treetop Extreme

Treetop Extreme is an aerial adventure park where you're harnessed up and sent across a series of platforms, ziplines and obstacles suspended between actual trees. It's the sort of place that sounds more terrifying than it actually is - the safety kit is proper, the staff know what they're doing, and you move at your own pace through the canopy.

You'll spend between two and three hours working through different courses, depending on which one you choose. Some routes are gentler, others have you tackling rope bridges and rope swings at height. The views across the treetops are genuinely worth the effort, especially on a clear day when you can see for miles across the surrounding woodland. Kids aged eight upwards tend to get the most from it, though adults who fancy testing themselves against something a bit different will find it absorbing too.

It's within walking distance of Milton Keynes town centre, which makes it convenient if you're based at Adventurer's Village or Gullivers Campsite - both are barely half a mile away. Even Cosgrove Park, a few miles further out, wouldn't be too tricky a drive. Entry isn't free, but the pricing is reasonable for what amounts to a couple of hours of genuine activity rather than passive sightseeing.

Go on a weekday if you can - weekends get rammed with school groups and stag dos. Wear trainers with proper grip, not sandals.
