Tower Gardens

The Tower Gardens in King's Lynn are a working nature reserve that feels genuinely off the radar - which is precisely why they're worth seeking out. You're walking through proper wetland habitat here, the sort of place where serious birders come with their notebooks and telescopes, but it's accessible enough that families won't feel out of place either.

What you get is a landscape that's been shaped by water management and conservation work over decades. Reedbeds dominate, punctuated by open water and scrub, and the whole thing operates as a genuine wildlife corridor rather than a manicured park. Visit in spring or autumn and you'll catch migrating birds; summer is quieter but the dragonflies make up for it. Winter can be bleak and muddy - go prepared.

This isn't a place to spend a full afternoon unless you're seriously into birds or botany. An hour or ninety minutes is realistic for most visitors. Kids aged eight upwards will get something from it, but younger ones might find the lack of facilities and clear paths a bit dull.

It's free to access and sits handily between King's Lynn town itself and the two caravan parks in the area - Kings Lynn Caravan & Camping Park is just 2.6 miles away, and Sandringham Camping and Caravanning Club Site is 6.1 miles east. Combine it with a walk into town or a visit to Sandringham House if you're staying locally and want a morning out that doesn't feel like the usual tourist circuit.
