Tower Burn Waterfall

The burn tumbles down through a steep ravine just outside Dunfermline, and the walk in is proper rewarding. You're following the water upstream through woodland that gets increasingly dramatic as the gorge narrows - the sound builds before you even see the falls properly. The waterfall itself isn't vast, but it's energetic, especially after rain when the whole ravine comes alive with spray and noise.

Kids who are into splashing and exploring will get a solid couple of hours out of it, particularly if you let them mess about in the shallower pools lower down.

What makes it worth the trip is the sense of being genuinely away from things. You're only a few miles from the town centre, but the woodland absorbs you completely. The light filtering through the trees in late afternoon is worth timing for.
