Tom an t-Saighdeir

Tom an t-Saighdeir rises above the Taynuilt area with a modest but rewarding climb that takes about an hour each way. The name means 'soldier's hillock' in Gaelic, though the origins of that name have been lost to time. It's the kind of hill that doesn't announce itself - no car park, no visitor centre, no faffing about. You simply park near Taynuilt and get on with it.

The views from the top are proper stellar. On a clear day, you can see across Loch Awe to Ben Cruachan dominating the landscape, and the Paps of Jura floating on the horizon.
